The Sheriff is employed by the county and is an elected position. He or she acts in role similar to police chief in a municipal department. The Sheriff is in charge of the department and will manage deputies, complete yearly departmental budgets and approve payroll. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Patrolling communities and surrounding areas.
  • Investigating complaints
  • Emergency response
  • Resolving disputes
  • Arresting suspects
  • Criminal investigation
  • Executing warrants
  • Managing department

 

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent is required. One to two years of experience preferred but not required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
