The Foster County Recorder is an elected position with a four year term. The current Foster County Recorder is Lynelle Lyman Hoppe. She was elected in 2002.
As the Recorder she performs the following duties:
- Recording of legal documents according to specifications of North Dakota statutes as set forth in the North Dakota Century Code
- Maintaining and preserving an archival copy of those records for public use
- Issues marriage licenses
- Provides passport applications
- Administrating and policy functions of the Recorder’s Office
Up until August of 2001 the Recorder was known as the Register of Deeds
